He blinked, awakening to the view of a hospital room. The face of an orderly greeted him. She appeared to be early thirties, slight wrinkles gracing the side of her face, the occasional gray hair falling into her face. Her thoughts flowed into his head, accidentally as he learned of her marital problems, worries about her children, the school they were going to. He turned away from her, shutting his mind.
“Is something the matter?” she inquired in Japanese. “You’ve been asleep for the last day.”
He nodded wordlessly. She watched him for a moment and then explained that police had a few questions based on what he’d said to some firefighters. He didn’t respond, didn’t even look at her. His head was still hurting pretty badly. She walked out of the room, more than likely to fetch a doctor… maybe even the police, people that he was in no shape, nor mood to deal with them. He pushed himself off of the bed, quickly pulling his clothes to him and getting dressed. The moment that he was, the wall in front of him began to break down and Raphael began walking out into the open, floating into the air and rebuilding the wall and window.
He floated up to the roof and looked around. He needed to find a park of some kind, a place to get away from it all. Just somewhere… That was when it hit him. The woods outside of Karakura Town. The perfect place to vanish for a few hours. He’d flown past Tokyo and all the way out into the woods of Karakura Town, and laid down against a nearby tree.
He was halfway to dozing off when suddenly a buzzing sound woke him up and he reached into his pocket, grabbing his phone. The call had already ended and as he checked the voicemail, he saw that Frey had been calling him. He groaned and listened to the voicemail. She had been calling to ask how things had gone with Janus. Raphael shoved the phone back into his pocket and shivered. He wasn’t even certain what had happened, besides the fact that Janus had been horribly injured. He wasn’t entirely certain how he was going to explain it to her. Especially since he didn’t know what had happened.
He heard the police sirens going off in the two far below, and had also begun hearing the thoughts of the people down in Karakura more. Marital problems, worries about promotions, grades and marks… He squeezed his head to try and shut them out. Slowly the voices began to abate, and he got to his feet shakily. He needed to get moving and find a place to just lie down. But as he made to do so he suddenly felt the presence of another nearby… Someone was moving, the slightest bits of thought touched his mind and he came to a stop. Normally Raphael would’ve been more than prepared for it, but with his current state, he wasn’t as mentally prepared as he would’ve wanted to be and could only ready himself.
