It had been two days since his run in with the man named Marshal and nearly five days since…the destruction of Janus’ bed and breakfast. He was still only slightly disturbed by what had happened that day, though running into Marshal had certainly helped his mindset quite a bit. Normally he would have left to return back to Berlin by now, but what had happened with Janus still bothered him.
Her entire bed and breakfast destroyed, not a hollow anywhere in the area, yet the debris around the place was tainted with that same energy. It hadn’t made any sense, until he’d heard it; the little pitter patter of energy and pain against the back of his head. That nagging sense that something was wrong and, during his meeting with Marshal he’d figured out what it was.
The benefits of a more developed left handed side of the brain allowed him to speak to Marshal, while at the same time managed to hold a conversation with Jeremy. The conversation, despite the subject matter involved, had been exceptionally enlightening in helping Raph to realize what had happened and what was still happening.
Since that day, he’d been intentionally avoiding anywhere that he could feel Janus, dodging down alleyways or into trees if he felt even a trace of her energy or even anything that felt like her. He moved, as he always had, in his own direction. Not that there was anything wrong to go back and speak with her, he felt as if he should eventually after all.
Just stop being a coward and do it. The longer you go without talking to her about what happened…
‘The worse I’m going to feel about it, yeah I get it.’
Then don’t be a chicken.
‘Easy for you to say…’
Was that the truth, though? It didn’t really matter. The cold winter air had long since cleared his head of the night’s worries, and the coffee wasn’t helping all that much. He needed the coffee from Chicago, ooh, no Seattle! Yeah… They had the best coffee.
That was when his senses picked up on her. She was close by. It was time, wasn’t it? He had to do this now, or else this would probably never get done. He’d given it a few days, and that was more than enough time to sort through his feelings.
I could take care of it.
‘Yeah, and we all remember how well that worked out. We don’t want Janus to be left with serious burns again.’
Hey! That was not my fault!
Raphael rolled his eyes and followed the signature to the person. He knew she was there… He hoped that she wasn’t in a bad mood. He just wanted to apologize… He just wanted to make sure that she was ok.
