As Alain suspected, it was becoming more difficult to find his way to the human world on any kind of regular basis. The realm may not have been completely closed off to him yet, but it required him to take tasks which held no interest whatsoever for the Third Division doctor. He had developed a somewhat singular focus in recent months, finding Amara. It was really rather ironic. Originally, it was his encounter with the mysterious cloaked and hooded figure in the Rukongai who provided the realization that he had become too focused on one thing, kaido. He later learned that this was Amara. Now, here she was again, causing him to revert back to a one track mindset. And so there he stood, high in the skies of London, but as part of three person team to investigate a missing Shinigami.
Two days ago, Seireitei or more precisely the Research and Development Institute, lost contact with Morence Caspi. He was a member of Second Division tasked with patrolling the capital. According to Merrick’s information, the man was an exemplary Shinigami. He filed his reports on time. He did what was he told, when he was told. Perhaps not the most ambitious of individuals, but the Gotei had need of those types as well, loyal to a fault and a believer in the cause. It was foolishness in Alain’s opinion. He simply didn’t believe that anyone was altruistic. People should simply present themselves to be what they are, the good and the bad. At least he could respect that. In any case, Caspi missed a scheduled check in and was later lost by the Operations department, somewhere on the outskirts of the city.
Uncertain of what condition Morence might be found in, a member of Third Division was ordered to join the search. After a bit of haggling with a squad mate and a superior, Alain was able to get himself assigned to the three person search party. Of course, he had an ulterior motive. The London area had been mentioned multiple times in the hidden files of Lab Station Six. As a result, Merrick surmised that the city had to house one of their bases of operation. The mission would come first obviously, but he would find a way to get away and visit the places referred to in the documents. Those were his thoughts as the three Shinigami soared through the skies toward the last known location of Caspi. Joining him on this task was Carrick Sanlon of Second Division and Elisabeth Andersson of Fifth.
When the group arrived at the scene, the first thing which they all noticed was the damage. Standing in what was a largely forested area, that damage came in the form of knocked down trees and scorched earth. The details of Caspi’s zanpakuto were unknown, but the file stated that he was adept at hado. It was a reasonably impressive display for someone outside of Third Division if he had been responsible. Unfortunately, the damage was two days old and the reiatsu was nearly nonexistent by that point. Nevertheless, Merrick and Sanlon tried to see what they could find while Andersson checked the surrounding area and established a perimeter. The team was only minutes into their investigation when heads shot up. Both men had detected reiatsu flares in the distance. Alain had little doubt that Elisabeth noticed nothing being from Fifth. “I will check it out. Your skills are better suited here, at least for the moment. If I find anything worthwhile, I will contact you. And do let Andersson know where I have gone.” In a burst of reiryoku, he was in the sky once more, flying towards not one reiatsu signature, but two.
