Paperwork. Droll and uninspiring paperwork had been the bane of Rei's existence for quite some time. During her time in the Second she had gotten rather familiar with the traditional format of reports, as well as various other documents she was no longer able to speak of. It certainly didn't help that she had long since become to go-to gal when it came to the boring chores. Being the kind, compassionate person she was, she naturally reached out to help her friends and gladly took all the glory of doing their work. On one hand, that left her with little free time. But on the other hand, it gave her a very impressive list of achievements that made sliding into the First Division a relative walk in the park.
Most people chided her for leaving her home in the Second. After all, surely a promotion to a higher seat was right around the corner for the hard-worker with a promising set of skills. Well liked among her peers and the sort of person to get things done, she was a perfect fit for the Second, so said the recruits and people she worked with. But, it wasn't what she wanted. It had taken a few decades of mindless slogging through the routine of the Division for her to realize it. The Second provided a nice cover, but wasn't giving her the tools she needed to--
Ah... Shit. It's already two? Rei cursed to herself as she glanced to the clock that hung quietly on the wall. The minute hand flicked just past the twenty-minute marker, a soft tick hissing as it did so. Rei stared with an uninterested stare before she let out a long sigh. She reclined in her chair, put her feet against one of the legs of her desk, and then pushed herself outward. The wooden legs of the chair screeched loudly in the process and a few scuffs were added to the dry floor.
The newly appointed Executioner stood up and gathered up her papers. With a few taps on the desk, they were shuffled together neatly and then slipped into a manila folder. A paperclip held the document shut and then Rei casually tucked it under her arm. Boring, mundane, paperwork was treated in an equally boring and mundane way. She grabbed a pen and tucked it behind her ear and then shoved her chair back into place under the desk. With an air of nonchalance to her gait, she left her office and made her way down the hall of the officer's quarters.
During her walk to the other end of the building where a living-room like area would be found, she passed a few unfamiliar faces that she greeted with a pleasant smile and short wave. Most of the encounters were not well received and the busy looking Shinigami didn't even so much as look at her. Shockingly, it seemed the First had more of a cold shoulder than the Second, if that was even possible. Eventually, Rei gave up trying to be friendly to her co-workers and just focused on nothing in particular.
When she made it to the lounge, she was greeted to the sight of a lively bunch of new recruits laughing and sipping drinks at one of the many, circular tables that were provided. She watched the younglings joke about something that had happened in the Academy and found herself smiling. In fact, she was so thoroughly lost in her eavesdropping that it was only when someone approached her did she yank her attention away.
"Oh, Skolova," Rei said politely as she regarded the beauty with a warm smile. "Sorry I'm late. I lost track of time trying to tackle the mountain of paperwork in my office." She gave a wide grin and then gestured to a small table nearby. "Make yourself comfortable."
And so both of them did. Well, as comfortable as they could in wooden chairs and with a small, oval table resting between them. Rei dropped the folder she had been carrying and then folded her hands over it. She smiled to the woman quietly, looking her over for a moment.
"So you want to join the First, eh?" Rei's tone was probably too casual for the situation. "We're a rather large organization compared to the others, so did you have a department in mind?"
