Reyla frowned, she had hoped that Merrick wouldn't try and delve to much deeper into her time with the Fourth, but apparently he was nothing if not relentless when following an informational trail, something she could sympathize with, even if she didn't appreciate it at the moment. "I made a deal to make use of not only a private lab, but also five very experimental energy generators. I even, barely, got them to agree to allow me some privacy to do my work in peace. Actually it was more of an agreement for me to understand that they'd bug the lab and for them to not raise a fuss when I destroyed the bugs. Smart they may be, but they're not the Second, subtlety isn't necessarily their main concern. "In exchange they have free use of my services for specific time periods each day until I'm done with my research." In other words I'm a guinea pig, but at least one that gets something better than a carrot at the end of the maze.
"I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised that not many have showed any interest in your project. Beyond simply improving our image or appealing to whatever altruism some of the Shinigami may have, having these clinics set up would be invaluable in an emergency such as, goodness forbid, an invasion or other catastrophe. If the people of the Rukongai had specific locations that they could fall back to then it would be much easier to keep the populous from panicking, and an improved number of people trained in medicine, even if they can't perform kaido, would significantly lessen the load on our own doctors in times of crisis. I understand that people have time concerns, but unless we make stupid mistakes most of us have a literal eternity ahead of us, there's no reason not to invest in something with clear benefits." Even as she continued to speak Reyla did have one concern, Merrick didn't seem like the kind of person to go out of his way to help someone, even as a doctor. He even stated that unless someone was directly in front of him he didn't care about the well being of his potential patients, so she had to wonder what other motivations Merrick could possibly have to build clinics like this. It was possible that he cared more about the citizens of the Rukongai than his fellow Shinigami, but she doubted that.
