Divination was a dangerous gift. Things never seemed to get to Janus. There were times when surprises would be a better point to deal with. Time was beginning to take its toll. The more Janus used her gift, the more she released it the more she couldn't keep herself grounded at a specific point. She wanted her gift to work, not constantly stress her mental barriers to the point where they were on the verge of collapse constantly. She had been putting off the phone call she was about to make because she actually kept thinking she had already made it. Amara, that was the right name as far as she remembered from Doc. Janus thought she had called him yesterday but the truth was she had never put the phone to her ear.
Janus shook her head and then thew up as many mental barriers as she could before dialing the number she had been given by the black robe she had deemed 'Doc'. "Doc, heard something about your friend. I figure its pretty easy for you to find me." Janus said as she put her phone away and looked up. It was going to rain, she already could see it. She could see the fact that down the street someone was about to back into another car. Down the street, Janus could see an officer drive by in three minutes and ten seconds and her mind began to buckle under the pressure of all the futures again. She forgot where she was for a moment and saw a flash of the asylum again. Maybe the diviner was crazy, and she really had never gotten out of her room.
Janus blinked back to the present, or what she assumed was the present as she continued down the street. Useful, what a joke. She thought to herself as she waited during a walk sign to cross the street as a car drive right through the intersection. She grabbed a young boys shoulder and held him from going across to his mother who was calling him as the car careened by and slammed into the back of the car a hundred meters or so ahead of it and Janus turned. She let the boy go across the street, who thanked her. Even though the mother was already yelling at her for touching her son. Janus walked across the street and passed the woman who called her a number of names before heading towards a small diner nearby.
She walked in and ordered a black coffee and tried to relax.
