The original:
I just want to add mechanics to it so it has more of a solid feel to it, so my idea is something like this:
Powers
First Release: "Blaze, Arathyx"
Effects: Kalen's power allows him to utilize a fire-like substance. The power and volume of flames to be produced scales with Kalen's resonance skill and is applied in the form of charges. These charges are used to perform various techniques in combat and are required in order for Kalen to use his flames at all.
Beginner: 2 Charges
Novice: 4 Charges
Journeyman:
Expert: 10 Charges
Master: 15 Charges
Grandmaster: 20 Charges
These charges are granted on release, and cannot be regenerated while this release is active. When Kalen runs out of charges, he is forced out of his release and suffers from "burnout", preventing him from re-entering this release for at least 2 turns.
Charges can be regenerated while this release is inactive. For every turn this release is inactive, Kalen regains 1/3 of his charges (this number is rounded down, but cannot be less than 1). Kalen can also spend 1 action to regain 2 additional charges using an ability he calls "syphon" (more info below).
Kalen's charges are completely restored after 2 posts where he is out of combat and resting.
Description: When in Shikai, Kalen is able to channel his Reiryoku into his blade, using it to create a blue flame like substance. He can then release it in a series of fire like attacks. If compared to a normal fire, reishi would be the material fuel, and reiryoku would be a flammable gas. This allows Kalen's fire to burn up attacks made of concentrated spirit energy, such as a hollow's cero, and attacks made of reishi, such as Quincey's arrows. Of course, like all flames, Kalen's fire can be smothered under too high concentrations of either of its key components. Making powerful attacks more difficult to burn and block.
Techniques:
These are the mechanics I had in my head that I think could work. Of course, they are up to debate and scuteny from the staff if you have a problem with them.
(Also tell me if I didn't follow the outline for this request. I didn't see a template for it, but again, I tend to miss things like that. So just give me a point in the right direction and I'll fix'er right up.)

Also, while the flames are able to harm both living and soul-based beings, they cannot be simply burned away on the spot, unless they are much weaker than Kalen, as doing so would require vast amounts of energy. It seems that this is the case because of the souls reiatsu, being fueled by reiryoku, naturally shields the body from this method. While the whole body cannot be burned, the techniques Kalen uses are concentrated enough to burn the body's defences in order to damage the soul/soul body.

Techniques:
- Tamashī no shōmetsu: This is a technique of pure destruction. It is used by swinging his sword and releasing a massive amount of energy. The effect and damage of this attack depend on Kalen's zanpakuto resonance.
- Seishin-en surasshu: This is a lesser ranged attack that sends the flames engulfing Kalen's sword in a wide area when he swings This is a simple technique and as such can be used with extremely minimal effort.
- Honō no tate: This is a defensive move that uses Kalen's soulfire to nullify spirit based attacks. This has limits such as not being able to burn up the energy contained by moves of high-level bankais. Ceros are also powerful and as such can only be blocked if the cero is at least one rank lower than Kalen's zanpakuto resonance skill. At Zanpakuto resonance: master, it can defend against attacks such as these if the enemy's skill is less than/equal to Kalen's zanpakuto resonance.
