She tripped and soared through the air – there was a throbbing pain in her foot and the breath was knocked from her as she landed face down on the grass. She cursed under her breath and looked quickly behind, they were approaching her. Panic started to run through her veins when horrible sounds, loud and raspy echoed from behind her. She quickly pressed her hands to the rocky ground in order to push herself up back to her feet.
What the hell is going on?
They were everywhere - the Hollows. They were so many that she had lost count. Where did they come from, she didn’t know. But why did they choose to appear, all at the same time was rather suspicious. Her trek forward to the bushes was awkward. Her ankle protested and her Shinigami uniform felt incredibly heavy with the moisture from the ground, and she was tired; she moved with a kind of resigned lurch, wondering why hadn’t Soul Society noticed the hollow unusual activity yet?
She had led the hollows away from the crowded parts of Karakura town towards north, to some deserted area. It was surrounded with trees and tall bushes, there were a few old buildings, and all of them looked old, some even about to collapse. Not too far away, Risa could see an abandoned construction site.
Risa narrowed her eyes and jumped sideways landing in a crouching position. One of the hollows seemed to have finally caught up with her. She shuddered as she stared at it, the piercing eyes of the creature were stuck on her and she could easily see the willpower of annihilating her that came from it. Swallowing dry, she had very little time to analyze her opponent. He was gigantic, probably the size of a two-storey building. She concentrated on his body which seemed to be complemented with several hairy tentacles.
She straightened up and moved her hand towards her zanpaktou. She quickly withdrew it, the moonlight bathing the clean blade. Brown eyes glared into the dark eyes that were behind the circle-shaped hollow mask. She wondered why her? Why couldn’t she simply enjoy her day off without bumping into one of these? She didn’t have too much time to dwell on it as one of the tentacles headed toward her at an incredibly and scary speed.
Cursing, she dodged it with a simple flash-step to the right. Her heart was beating hard against her chest as she could feel the hot wind caress her skin as she had avoided the blow just barely. A cold shiver ran up and down her spine as the creature let out a screechy sound. She furrowed her brows and flash-stepped again as the hollow now moved another of its tentacles. She counted them silently, one, two, three, four, five and six. It had six tentacles all together. Risa jumped up, her fingers tightened around her zanpaktou as she reached for one of the tentacles. She gritted her teeth as she delivered a simple clean cut.
Five.
Five tentacles now. The creature growled and moved all of its tentacles at the same time. Risa froze in her place when she could feel the other hollows approach them. She needed to finish this one quickly and then she would have to face them sooner or later. She couldn’t just let them roam around freely. She would face them until others got there. So for now, it was just her. Great. She thought sarcastically as she dodged yet another tentacle.
Risa gasped when one of tentacles wrap itself around her waist. She kept her hold strong on her zanpaktou, glad that she could still move her arms. Her eyes widened as the tentacle started to tighten around her waist. She moved her zanpaktou down and stabbed its tentacle making the hollow shake her violently and then throw her merciless at the ground.
Her vision had become slightly blurry and the pain in her head was now merely another to add to the many others. How many hollows had she fought with before this one? She didn’t even remember. She rolled over to her left just in time to dodge another of the hollow’s strikes. She winced in pain as she tried to move up, staring in horror at her left wrist. It was broken. She crawled over to her zanpaktou and quickly stood up. Risa could feel terror welling up, sharp and strong, but she forced herself to breathe through it. She would not panic, she would not run away.
“Bring forth the light, Ikazuchi!†A bright white light consumed the landscape and it soon embraced every single one of them.
Risa landed hard on the floor beside her bed. She laid there, eyes stuck on the ceiling, one hand softly resting on her chest as she felt her racing heart. “Just a stupid nightmare.†She whispered.
