What kind of player are you? Everyone has elements of each of the three primary profiles and two secondary profiles. But which stand out most to you? Are you a pure spike? A spike/johnny? A spike/melvin?
These are terms used by Wizards of the Coast's own Mark Rosewater when profiling the different reasons people play their flagship game. And it really can serve as a source of inspiration concerning your own motivations behind why you play any game. Even Bleach Gotei.
Johnny: Johnnies try to express something creative in their mechanics. In card games, they are the type who combo. In RPGs, they are the type who play the strangest monster/class combinations even if they aren't the best.
Timmy: Timmy wants to experience something. Whether its the thrill of victory or a defeat during a really memorable game. They largely play for memories. In Card games, they try to win with overwhelming victories with large nasty creatures. In RPGs, they tend to be the type who will play fairly standard builds but try to get the most bang for their buck without worrying about longevity.
Spike: Spike wants to win. He wants to prove he is better at the game than other people. In card games, they play tournament tested net-decks. In RPGs, they tend to play builds honed with tons of player testing or that are known to be awesome (Druid, Wizards and Artificers abound).
Melvin: Melvins care about the mechanics of a game more than anything else. He picks it to pieces. He takes it apart to see how it works and tries to get in the heads of the designers or players who helped design it.
Vorthos: Vorthos cares about world-building and character more than anything. Backstory. Canon. Plot. This is where they thrive.
