Time passes, things change, and expectations are quick to die.
In the time since Tova Diablo's rise to the rank of King-- or Regent, if you will, given his stated intentions to abdicate the throne when a 'more suitable' king should appear-- matters in Hueco Mundo seem comparatively peaceful. No major rebellions, no clash of Espada, nothing to make this day any different than any other. In the throneroom, chatting up a pair of newly unmasked Arrancar, sat the king himself. True to his word, it seemed that Diablo held not himself above any of his subjects, but those two newborns were about to get the shock of their new lives.
Ssssccchhhhrrrriiiip came the sound of a Garganta tearing open the fabric of space safely above the dais on which petitioners would stand during audience with the King. From within flew the pair on what appeared to be a saucer of some sort which quickly dematerialized.
With a surprising display of experienced flair, the woman landed gracefully on combat-boot shod feet, safely holding a shirtless Arrancar cradled in her arms (having held him 'hostage' against himself on the journey through the Garganta to ensure his compliance and prevent potential betrayal.) Even as she set him back on his own two feet, Ryder found herself scanning the room to take it in, at the same time both impressed with the simple grandeur and tactically inquisitive of what such a room had to offer a fortress.
It was during this visual scan that the woman's eyes locked onto him. Tova Diablo, the father of her daughter and recently self declared King of Hueco Mundo. His hair had changed and the man seemed marginally taller than before, but-- despite his place exalted upon the throne of Las Noches-- Ryder saw the same intelligent spark in the same eyes she had sixteen years ago.
"Tova, is that really you?" That voice, so strong and full of command in normal times, now carried a tinge of... hesitation, or concern. It had been a long time since Ryder had seen this man, and in that time she had changed far more than he. Not only had she given birth to his daughter-- and endured changes to her body as a result-- but she had given that same daughter away for adoption, become a killer for hire (for the government of course), and grown into a woman.
Standing on the dais before the king was a fully grown woman of extraordinary qualifications. Divine figure, Special Forces Operative, and-- oh yeah-- quite likely the strongest Quincy living on the planet. But despite all that, she was only here as a woman, to confront the man who had 'loved' her (in the physical sense) and left her alone with a baby.
Garbed in her bleached Sanrei suit with false mask fragment across her forehead, Barrie Hughes looked every bit the part of an Arrancar petitioning the king (a rather risque Arrancar, given the way that suit hugged her curves, but an Arrancar nonetheless), and given the Reiatsu Sensing disruption that Sanrei granted, any but a dedicated Sensor may well believe it.
"You may not recognize me, Cuarto, but my name is Barrie, and I believe there is a matter we need to discuss. A matter which began sixteen years ago in Hawaii, and which you have not once come to address." Glancing at the newborns, the woman decided to take a gamble, and reveal the specifics of her presence there in hopes of applying just a little extra pressure. "I'm here to talk about our daughter."
