So I've always felt that writing is often an art as well. But the real reason I'm posting this up is because I recently had a conversation with someone that led me to say 'I don't know writers' which is silly because I know hundreds of writers. Just not the 'writing a novel' kind of writers. And what I really need is both writers and readers, of all types. Which makes places like these one of the perfect places.
I'm finishing up my first novel, entitled The Real Folktale Blues. And Since I've well passed my half-way point, I've bundled together the first half of the work into a single PDF, and I'm currently looking for additional eyes to help me out with reading it and offering critique and feedback. You don't have to be a teacher in English or some famous novelist or even someone that is simply superb in grammar and spelling and the English Language. You just have to be willing to read a 175ish page half-novel and provide me with some basic comments. The simple aspect of having multiple eyes seeing the piece I am seeing helps flesh out a lot of the mistakes and confusion that might appear in transfer from author to reader.
In particular if you notice a strange obvious grammar mistake, or words that just don't fit in the right place, or maybe a sentence or two that doesn't seem to make sense, these are the kinds of things I'm looking for. In addition I'm also looking for overall plot meshing. If you think this particular thing is too much of a coincidence or seems unlikely or is just so out there it threw you off from staying stuck in the story, I want to know. If a character seems flat or useless, I want to know.
If you decide to read it, I'm not asking for all these types of things, just what you come across. Even something as simple as your overall feelings for the story help, though the more specific you can get, the better. Essentially, think of when you read a story and you have these random thoughts pop in your head about the story, THOSE are what I am looking for, your general real feelings of the story. Don't worry, I can take it.
Anyone interested in reading the first half of my novel and helping me out, you can PM me your E-mail and I will get you the PDF sent over. There is no particular time limit. I expect to have the rest of the novel finished by the end of the month to do the same thing once again. So at the very least there is about a month you have to read this and provide feedback. Within about a month and half I plan to have this book completed and published up on Kindle.
As a side-note, I'm still technically (I have a few interested but none have offered up work to me yet) looking for someone interested in doing the book cover art for my novel. You'll get the mention of being the illustrator and possibly have a chance of drawing some more art for when I get the book published as a physical copy, as I would like to do a small black and white drawing at the beginning of each chapter (Ala Alice in Wonderland style). You would also be able to obtain royalties on the book, though it likely wouldn't be much considering it is only my first book with only an ebook release, but it would be something around 10% (As I get 70%).
Thank you, if you do help me, for those who would just like to read the story just for the hell of it, you can check out my blog. Along with parts of the novel being posted there is tons of other writing I keep there that you may enjoy, most all of it is fiction. You can check out my blog here: randomjordan.wordpress.com/
And again, anyone interested in reading the novel for feedback providing let me know by PM with your E-mail, and I'll send the PDF to you.
See ya later all!
