Explanation: This is my favorite topic in an RPG I started in 5 years ago...my first bleach RPG! I assumed it was lost with the site, but found a copy on my external hard drive! I figured I'd share it a bit as it was the most successful plot post I had on the forum...and it was Bleach related so I figured...why not?
Setting the Scene: My character (captain of the third) was arrested and an interim captain from division-0 was there to temporarily replace him. She announced a physical assessment of Seireitai in the form of "games" most of the site would participate in. At the same time the interim captain would do 1v1 "psychological evaluations" of the captains...this was all the captains knew other than "this is the prelude to plot..." In this chapter Oyuki, the interim captain of the 3rd, has no established powers other than having a noteably weak reiatsu signature.

It was a warm dusk when Oyuki, interim captain of the 3rd, got the order to meet with the 8th division captain. One of the oldest still active captains to have never been moved...the idea of evaluating Zalin sent some shivers even up the otherwise straight and immobile spine of the icy-shinigami. Her pale complexion and red eyes matched those of her short companion--an androgynous youth in pure white robes who furthermore shared a similar fashion accessory: a rope tied around its neck like a broken noose. The 'mother', if you could call her that, also had a pair of ropes dangling around her ankles and wrists. Her black clothes were almost identical to the odd outfit worn during her first night as captain, save for the piece of cloth attached to her right shoulder which was now white. Her long white hair brushed against the pavement of the 8th division as she walked down a set of stairs towards the captain's office.
Passing by an unseated shinigami, the young man stopped in his tracks to look over the never-before-seen captain. Her eyes were gentle and kind despite a rather foul scowl on her lips. And when he glanced at her awkward expression, he didn't know whether he wanted to flee or think about someway he could ask her for help. In his confusion, he just froze. Once she passed by, he ran off and just barely missed the young child who seemed to follow Oyuki wherever she went.
"Zalin-fukukidouchou and captain of the 8th division," she announced to an empty hall (not knowing exactly what door the man would be behind, if he was even in this particular building). "I wish to speak with you concerning the Gotei."

Kaze “That is Daikidouchou, Madame.†Zalin’s cold tone cut through the silence of the empty hallway as he silently approached the women from a dark hallway to the side. “Kionchi would be the Fukukidouchou, the second in command of the Kidoushuu.â€
He had been just leaving for the day when he found the interim captain in his Division. Dressed in one of his older uniforms and his Gotei haori, he had his hair tied back in a tail because of the project work that occupied most of his time as of late and he also had on his now signature black rounded sunglasses to protect his eyes from bright light. Crossing his arms once he stopped several feet from the interim captain, Zalin stared over his eyewear at her.
“The concern of the Gotei, you say?†Zalin studied her like a lab specimen as he questioned her motive. “Many would wonder if such concerns should be turned to the Central Forty-Six when they decide to suddenly relieve a captain of the Gotei of their duty with no forewarning or mention to any other captains.â€
Such an odd woman. She gives off a presence that makes Sophia even look like a warm person. The young appearing captain noted in his thoughts after a moment.
“I will assume you would prefer a more private setting.†Zalin motioned her towards an empty room made for laboratory team conferences. “This room should do.â€
Opening the door, he quickly reached in and felt for the light switch. He then quickly flipped it and motioned the interim captain to enter and take a seat.

Nodding silently, Oyuki blushed just a bit and hid the sudden outburst of color as quickly as she could behind her hand as she pretended to clear her throat.
"Excuse me," she said politely, "My...Japanese...isn't always so perfect."
Walking into the room she silently spun to meet Zalin and sat. Behind her quietly waltzed the genderless child, who stood next to her companion. Although the kid remained standing, there was still a considerable height difference compared with the taller Oyuki. She pulled out a small notepad and an odd looking black pen with several peculiar instruments poking out of it on either side. Holding up the notepad in clear view, she stared at Zalin intently and motioned to have him sit before her.
"Kionchi performed a dangerous ritual that risked both his division and life. His motives were entirely selfish and he was warned against such a procedure. Do you question the results of his actions?"

“What is there to question?†Zalin shrugged as he sat before the women. “One should be prepared for the consequences of their actions. I believe that is somewhere in the oath of captainship or something very close to that.â€
She seems to be to the point about this. Zalin thought as he stared from the interim captain to her ‘tail’. Let us see where this goes.
“Kionchi had once served under me here at the Eighth. He did as he was told, but he also followed his only moral compass. From what I gathered of the incident he had, it was not something horrible enough to take his captainship away.†Zalin watched for anything in the expressions of the interim captain. “He served the Seireitei and Soul Society as any captain of the Gotei would and should, whatever his reason for doing what he did it was likely in the best interests of both. Would you act any different if you were a ‘full fledged’ captain?â€

"Off the record," she said, putting down the notepad and pencil on a nearby table. "Kionchi's offense is still classified."
Crossing her legs, the captain rocked her feet back and forward and suddenly as she spoke with a deadly serious tone in her voice.
"And off the record, that particular captain risked not only his own life in a dangerous and unauthorized experiment, but the lives of every patient in his own division. That captain spent the last eight years making his division entirely sufficient on a single technique...a skill that he continues to refuse to share its origins with. A skill that he thinks we knew nothing about."
Leaning forward and giving Zalin a wide grin, the woman changed her focus and tone as she silently appraised Zalin's condition. The room was entirely silent--save for the audible thump of a heart-beat that came from neither Oyuki nor Zalin. An unnaturally loud heart-beat that even caused the 3rd captain's ears to twitch a bit with each rendition. The awkward silence was broken at half-beat.
"Do you have anything to report to us, Mr. Dikidochou?" she said, scanning Zalin from head to toe as she continued speaking despite her grammatical error. "If Kionchi had just submitted proper authorization for his experiment, I'm sure his crimes would have been pardoned with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Its a pity when those in the echelons of power such as ourselves keep such destructive things inside of us as secrets, Zalin-tichou."

“We are permitted our privacy; even the Central Forty-Six carry their own secrets. In addition, I would not go so far as to call secrets destructive. Dark would be a better description, and secrets are a necessary darkness in this world.†Zalin adjusted his glasses slowly. “It is a funny thing, darkness that is. Many children cry out in fear of the darkness, but in truth, their fear is the unknown covered by the darkness. Yet little do they realize the darkness is the one thing that protects them from their night terrors. Knowing and not knowing can change a situation from plain fear to out right despair.â€
The captain of the Eighth Division then cleared his throat as he came to his answer. “It is my task to report what ‘I’ deem important for the sake of Soul Society and the Seireitei. I have reported everything I found to be in the best interests for both. In addition, what remains, that I deem unnecessary for reports, is split in two. One being that which I can easily deal with myself and see no reason to risk the health of anyone else and the other being classified and out of the jurisdiction of anyone below the Central Forty-Six itself. Some things are best not known and kept in the darkness by those who travel a path of darkness. It is an unwritten oath in the Eighth that all who work here must sometimes forego morality in the interests that best serves to help all shinigami, almost akin to the Third’s oath to heal all shinigami who pass through their halls.â€

Looking down at the ground Oyuki gave less of an impression of dissatisfaction with Zalin's answer and more one of...disappointment.
"I too have a bit of a secret I've kept in the dark...off the record..." She said, staring back up at the 8th division captain inquisitively. "In my horrible little shadows...if you will."
Letting her words sink in, she closed her eyes and gave forth a heavy breath before continuing.
"Yet to become a shinigami, this secret was made known to the world. And it is at that time that I realized one need not walk the path of shadows alone. Central 46 gave me more than power and security...it gave me a family. It made me both mother and child to a wonderful family."
Looking down on the floor with a warm smile, he seemed to be recalling memories from years past.
"And why should the parents share their secrets with their beloved children?" she said as she looked back up to the captain with a sudden look of both shock and anger. "The shadow of a child is much smaller than that of a parent, Zalin-chan. Often times it doesn't conceal enough from the unsurpassed wisdom of an elder."
The figure next to the representative shivered a bit, but she didn't seem to notice.
"Children should know their place, Zalin-chan."

Closing her eyes and smiling, the woman reached in her robes near the chest as she listened to the captain. Feeling around for a moment, she pulled out a small leather glasses-case. Closing up her robe somewhat, she adjusted her uniform and the noose rope around her neck. Pulling out her glasses and putting on the smudgeless lenses, she immediately changed her expression. A wide smile opened on her face and she stood from her chair with a bouncy kind of vigor never seen before. Walking around Zalin, she gave him a good amount of room as she walked around the captain.
"Aren't you a proud boy--no, a proud man even," she corrected herself as she completed her walk, now standing between Zalin and the door (not that such a limitation would prevent a captain level shinigami from being able to leave). "But are you really that proud of your kidou? So proud that you think your opinion higher than that of even the central 46? Seireitai is the Central 46. Shinigami were given everything we hold dear, including your little kidou, by Seireitai. Everything we hold dear was given to us by the Central 46...even a second chance."
As she looked down Zalin with her glass lens flaring in a way that hid most of her crimson eyes. Looking down for a moment at her child, she loosened her almost 'wicked' smile just long enough to make sure the child knew what she was talking about.
"When I entered the Gotei, I was barren. The central 46 gave me the chance to have a child. Can your power make such a perfect child? Can your kidou do that?! Even if it could, it would only be proof of the council's power. Am I right?"
08-11-2009 10:40 PM
Kaze “Nothing spoken by a captain or a commander is ever off the record.†Zalin’s mouth formed into a small frown hearing the annoying words once again. “Only a ‘child’ spews such words. If you wish something to be kept hidden, one should never even bring it to the surface.â€
She was much more disturbing than he had originally determined, and Zalin hate it. Her intentions were quite clear by her disgusting statements of parent and children. Keeping composure, he let her finish her words. When she made her final statement, he calmly sat silently for a moment.
“I ceased to be a child many years ago, Madame. Moreover, I am far different than you might conceive. Even if to you I am but a child, one thing remains: I am my shadow, I control the limitation of the light.†Zalin gestured as he spoke as well as leaned forward. “Also, I do know my place and my standing in this world. Nevertheless, despite my lack of knowledge on you, you on the other hand seem to know quite a bit about me. It begs to be asked, how does it feel to be in front of someone considered a prodigy of kidou? Does it not bring a chill to you that I could easily and without a single word cast a kidou. Or do you have faith that as a captain I should possess enough self control to not do such an outburst?â€
The bespectacled captain then returned to sitting normally in the chair he was in. “Let us move on to your next inquiry, shall we? If I was to guess it must be something along the lines of: Do you believe all directives placed by the Central Forty-Six must be followed no matter what my opinion of the matter? Or maybe would I ever turn in someone who I knew was guilty of sedition or is it going to be do I have confidence in my ability and mental capabilities to continue leading the Eighth Division?â€

((My god Kaze, your timing is impeccable. This was basically going to be my post before the last post...heehee.))
Her smile widened as she took in each and every one of the captain's delicious words. Her eyes thinned to mere crescents as she held back her own laughter. Her voice, on the other hand, was entirely the opposite. Whether it was acting or insanity was beyond even the minds of her closest allies: but this was Oyuki's true strength. A complete control over her voice and, if she desired, even her demeanor. But no...at this point she didn't need to control her face. In fact, it made it all more satisfying to let herself go loose regardless of the potential threats.
"Stop it you madman!" she whispered in a faux panic. Leaning against the door, as though to assure no one could look in and see her face, a distinct choking sound could be heard behind Zalin. The silent child on the other side of the captain was reaching for his own throat in vain--the ropes around his esophagus closed tighter and tighter as some invisible force worked the rope that most assumed merely a fashion accessory.
"If you keep this up, your going to break his neck!" she screamed, her face now showing a sense of 'true panic' as she fell to the ground in desperation.
The incident only took perhaps less than a few seconds. The moment the swiftly ushered words were spoken, the ropes around the child's neck closed quickly and tightly enough to completely break his spine...
((Note I made it vague in case you want to intervene. If you don't do anything, feel free to write about how the child falls to the ground or whatnot. Seriously, its just his neck breaking. Goodnight ^_^))

Kaze “Forgive me if you were serious about me seeming proud. I long ago overcame ‘Pride’, ‘Envy’, ‘Ignorance’, and befriended ‘Apathy’.†Zalin raised his arm and pointed at the child. “I could use my knowledge of technology and science to create such a child, but no my kidou can not. However, my kidou can do one thing about such a ‘perfect’ child. It can destroy it in cold blood.â€
Zalin then gave the woman a cold stare as he spoke his opinion of her. “Only a fool takes pride in such a useless, fragile thing as a child. But then again this is no ordinary child, am I correct? Even the Central Forty-Six know they are incapable of such a miracle as making a woman fertile who was not. Do not speak of power when you do not even understand what true power is, I may hold kidou as my strength but it is not my true power. Nothing that can be taken away can ever be called true power. But then again, I am speaking to a worthless women who sold her soul to the Central Forty-Six for the meager cost, nearly that of none, of a ‘false’ child that can never make up for the fact she will never have a blood child.â€
“What anguish you might feel if I strangled your ‘child’ with my bare hands. ‘It’ would be a waste of my kidou to use it on such a ‘gnat’. I wonder how ‘it’ looks inside? Might this have been one of my subordinates’ work?†he knew the child was now her dirty secret. “No, that would be too much paperwork. Even if it would be an act of mercy for the poor ‘thing.â€

This woman was extremely psychotic, that was quite clear to the captain of the Eighth. Watching the child being strangled by its neckwear, Zalin quickly was at the side of the child with a single shunpou then withdrew a small knife to cut the rope which he also quickly cut a small piece and hid in a secret pocket in his inner sleeve. Then another shunpou and he was by the interim captain, one eye still keeping an eye upon the strange child.
“If you truly loved that child, I doubt you would have done this.†Zalin grabbed her by the collar and was tempted to draw Kageboushi. “The Central Forty-Six has some bravado to send a mere nothing to arrest me. But then again, they have sent Keigun here before to watch what I would do during a ‘certain’ Taishyuu. You are quite talented, Complete Vocal Manipulation as well as Professional Physical Acting; one might expect someone like you to be an entertainer not a healer.â€
By now, the child seemed to be better but continued its odd silence and stillness. He then stared the woman right in the eyes. “One such as yourself is not capable ethically or mentally to care for a child.â€
“What the hell is this child! Is this…poisonous gas!†Zalin suddenly yelled with a tone of horror, showing the woman that he too could manipulate the evidence of a situation. His intention was not so much to get the attention of anyone who might be in the hallway, but to try to divert her attention as he pushed her away and backed up to the wall where several switches were. “What kind of person surgically implants gas release systems into a child?â€
When he got back against the wall, he quickly flipped several switches. Several sirens and flashing lights blared and flashed through the room, as the door latched locked from the security lockdown initiation, making Zalin alone in the room with the woman and her child. This way, from what he knew of the woman, she would be forced to wait for the Onmitsu Kidou to arrive and unlock the room or she would need a technique to teleport out. However, he had other reasons for flipping the switches; one of the switches activated the holographic communication transmitter, which would record the rest of what would happen in the room to the Eighth’s database as well as send the transmission to every holographic communication system in the Seireitei he had installed in the Gotei headquarters. That is if his memory of implementing the program for when security systems were going off was accurate.
“So is this how Central treats its loyal captains in the end? By sending immoral, ignorant interim captains to assassinate or frame them of mental instability?†Zalin quickly began to calculate everything he could guess she could do next. “So what will it be now, ‘Your Inquisitorship’?â€

"Stupid me..." she uttered under her breath as she slowly stood from position of complete despair. "Akayuki, give me the device."
The young child stood from his position of anguish on the floor. His neck was bruised and burnt from the noose. After taking in a single large but silent gasp of air and stretching its neck for just a moment, the kid appeared practically fine. There were still visible superficial marks, but the trauma and damage to the esophagus appeared entirely dealt with. The androgynous servant walked towards the strange pen Oyuki discarded at the beginning of the 'interview'.
"Your more interesting than I first suspected...you insulted my child but then insisted on saving his life..."
Picking up the pen, he turned around and tossed it tossed it back to Oyuki. The long haired woman caught the pen and, walking towards Zalin, spun it in her hand once before reaching the 8th division captain. Leaning into him, Oyuki came dangerously close to the daikidochou. She had no intention of hurting the captain and no visible weapons, but she was prepared for the captain to be quite prepared for the worse. Tossing her glasses aside, she looked straight into Zalin's eyes with a mixture of piqued interest and fear. Her pale face was blushing quite a bit--but it was hard to tell with the sirens.
"You've done well," she spoke loudly to the captain, handing him her pen. "But your going to have to do better."
"You've been set up by the keigun," she whispered swiftly into the captain's ear. "This pen has recorded everything; if you take it before they do, they won't be able to edit it and persecute you. Just please...tell them you took it from me...tell them you saw through my ruse and maybe I'll be able to keep my child."

It is a trap. Kageboushi’s presence and Kageryuu’s both entered Zalin’s mind. She is quite crafty, boy, by now you should have noticed something off. Why say she’s care about having a child and then do all of this?
A good question, he had not thought past her just being mentally insane, but now there was suspicion. What if she did, all she did, because she knew the child would be perfectly fine? Not even he knew how to create a synthetic being that could endure like this boy. Staring at the pen, he knew she was at least telling the truth about that, but what she’d do when he took it would be another matter.
Hadou no ichi, Shou! Zalin thought of the spell and directed the force kidou at the woman hoping she would drop the pen recorder. “I’ll be arrested regardless. If I was setup, then the moment you entered was my sentencing.â€
Quickly, the commander of the Kidoushuu drew his zanpakutou and stabbed the interim Captain. That moment passed quite slowly as one eye stayed on the child, which soon he would verify if it was indeed a real boy. It was not going to be a good week, he thought coincidently.
[206/2,021]
Stunned back from the captain's kidou, her eyes shot a guilty stare. Her pen flew across the room, landing at the feet of Akayuki. Didn't she just say she had dropped the act? Why would a reasonable and logical captain like Zalin who knew he had no way out of this situation proceed to resort to violence? And how far would he go. A zanpaktou through her chest showed her exactly how far the 8th captain's limits could be stretched.
Clothes...skin...muscles...skin...clothes.
Her body had very little resistance to the attack that pierced straight between the ribs on the interim captain's chest and through the close left part of her chest. The material around her skin was surprisingly thin--the blood poured down Zalin's zanpaktou with little resistance and, with a small quake from Oyuki's body, splattered on the captain's sleeve. With a violent cough, a fair amount of blood left the maiden's fair lips and landed square on Zalin's cheek and forehead. The blood was different than most. It was heavier than most...even darker than most. Oddest of all, it seemed to...tingle a bit. Not as though it were acidic or basic or even poisonous. It most definately was not absorbing into or even extensively sticking to Zalin's skin or clothes.
Sliding further down the captain's blood-soaked blade, as Zalin eyed the young boy, the dying interim captain could only look at her 'patient's' eyes. She reached for the captain's robes, pulling herself up just long enough to find an ear to which she could dictate her dying words. She leaned her body against the captain's and spoke in a hushed whisper.
"Thank you...Zalin-Daikidouchou. Please...protect Akayu..."
With those words, the woman's grip went limp. She fell from the captain, slid off the zanpaktou and slammed into the ground. Breathing very lightly, she had only moments left to live.
The child on the other hand had picked up the pen. With a single motion, Akayuki snapped the device in half. A mixture of dark blood-colored ink fell down the kid's arm, staining the otherwise completely white robes. The soon-to-be-orphen seemed unphased by the attack and imminent death of Oyuki. Stoically walking towards the corpse, Akayuki tossed the discarded device towards the captain. Zalin should have been able to see multiple recording devices, including a broken memory card no larger than a paper clip. Dropping to the side of the fallen interim captain, it dipped its clean and pale white hand into the woman's wound. The child frowned.
The keigun would be here soon. There was more than enough to convict the 8th division captain for quite a while.

((Wanna end it here? You can always write in prison...))
