Kiriko looked down at her feet, stepping carefully over the stones that were the only safe path due to a deluge of rain that made the ground soppy and covered in mud. If she had had her druthers, Kiriko wouldn't be outside while it was raining, but being a Shinigami meant that you did what your superior told you – and that meant running errands. The pretense wasn't even really strong right now, it was more that Satou had gotten a little testy when she'd asked him about why his name was on the training list this morning but he was spending his time playing cards with a few of the other men, and he'd decided that he desperately needed some more sake from the shop. And who was there to be so helpful, Kiriko of course!
She grumbled a little to herself about her fate, but otherwise was quiet. It was her own fault for being nosy, but honestly Kiriko had expected better of Satou, he was supposed to be strong so he shouldn't be getting cocky and skipping out on training. That just hurt all of them in the long run. And why was it that whenever she brought up stuff like this people got angry with her? They should be happy to be reminded of their lapses, otherwise they'd all skip practice and turn into weaklings! She could just see them now, all soft and lazy.
Tipping her head back, Kiriko rubbed the water from her eyes and walked on. She was almost into the correct area of seireitei, just a few more blocks. Satou had decided he just needed the sake from the store that was the furthest away from their division, but that was to be expected. She almost didn't mind it, because it wasn't often that Kiriko got to just walk on her own and do a little sightseeing. Though Aneue was slithering around in the back of her head, whispering creepily the same words over and over again. Coward. Coward. Coward.
Well alright! So she could have said no and gotten into a fight with Satou, but what good would that have done? He'd have beaten her silly and left her out to dry, in front of everyone too. That wasn't the answer! But Aneue wouldn't stop her whispering, and Kiriko hurried her step as if she could leave the spirit behind if she walked quickly.
