Ok all, as some of you know, I've lost several family members in the past, the most recent one was my maternal grandfather 2 months ago today. I'm going to be posting songs that I think are the best ones to remember my family members that are no longer with us. The first one is going to be for my late Aunt Barbara, who worked for NASA in Greenbelt, MD for a lot of years. It's called "Goodbye Goddard's Rose" It's to the tune of Elton John's song Goodbye England's Rose (Candle in the Wind).
Goodbye Goddard's Rose: A tribute to my late Aunt Barbara
Good-bye Goddard's Rose,
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you'd fall
We crawled out of the wordwork
And into our hearts we drew you near
You lived on our pedestal
And Inspiration was your name
And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Always knowing who to pray to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to help you
More than I did
Your candle burned out long before
The lessons that you give
The illness was tough,
The toughest role you ever played
And you became our Superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Now that you've gone home
All the hope we found in you
Helps up to remember
To have courage to be as strong as you
And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Always knowing who to pray to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to help you
More than I did
Your candle burned out long before
The lessons that you give
Good-bye Goddard's Rose,
Though I barely knew you at all,
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you'd fall
Good-bye Goddard's Rose
From your good friends all around the Center
Who see you as more than inspirational
An Angel on this Earth
And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Always knowing who to pray to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to help you
More than I did
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you'd fall
We crawled out of the wordwork
And into our hearts we drew you near
You lived on our pedestal
And Inspiration was your name
