It was strange to see Takua smile at her. Strange enough to earn a bewildered expression from the emotion girl. As if she had never seen him truly happy and was concerned he was doing something out of spite. Mocking her while she was down. Thankfully, though, she wasn’t so pessimistic that she doubted every act of kindness around her. She knew Takua truly felt happiness for her, but that didn’t make the gesture any less foreign to her.
Though, the slight pause was decidedly unsettling to her. The way Takua loomed over her, his expression and presence largely unchanging, but only because she knew he was concealing it all. HIding away some sort of reaction he was making while staring into her soul, or whatever it was he was doing. It was enough to make her shift her weight and sit up straight against the wall, glancing up and down him as if expecting to find a clue as to what he was thinking.
Finally, he sated her curiosity.
What he said made sense. It appealed to whatever sense of logic and rationality she had. She wanted to save people from suffering. So why was she making more people become Hollow? Become an embodiment of suffering? It made no sense no matter how she tried to wrap her brain around it.
But at the same time, it just felt right. Like it was her destiny--fate guiding her along like it had her entire life. A plan she was fulfilling. A plan that shouldn’t be questioned or reasoned with.
Well, that is until Takua brought the idea to the surface of her mind, dragging it kicking and screaming until it couldn’t be hidden away. It was ugly and putrid--worse than the monster that nipped at her stomach occasionally. A vile pool of vomit and hatred that swirled around in an upset mess, struggling to fly back to whatever corner of her mind it had been hiding in.
Is that really what Erasmus had done to her? In the temporary moment of clarity, she really couldn’t deny it. If anything, the realization made her feel betrayed and used--feelings she was far too familiar with, it seemed. So it was only natural that her face contorted into an ugly expression of disgust and shock when the puzzle pieces finally came together.
“He did that…” She mumbled more so to herself than to Takua before looking up and frowning. “Why? I don’t understand what good it would do to just…”
She wasn’t sure where she was going with what she was saying. She just knew that she had to verbally confirm her disbelief and confusion. So, she just shook her head and sighed, reaching up to run her palm across her face and smearing a bit of blood over her cheeks.
“Yeah,” she finally answered after taking a moment to gather herself. “Get that… Thing out of me.”
