So I've just found out, today, that IPBoard 4.1 is slated for early October. We'll probably wait for that. However, I've already started work on getting us transfer-ready. Which means that, if you're reading this? You'll want to keep backing up your posts you make, your avatars, signatures, anything you could potentially lose.
Some neat new features that 4.1 will bring include conveniences for posting (being able to highlight a single line of a post to quote it, for instance) and the latest version of CKEditor.
For all of you power users out there, I've got some good news: docs.ckeditor.com/#!/guide/dev_sourcearea
I'll be adding this to our editor, allowing everyone to write their posts in straight HTML. There's also a BBCode version I can probably run alongside it.

Hey Shun,
Can you change the email address thing after the fact? It'd cost too much for me to do it using shipboard Internet, but I should hit Hawaii in two days.

Change in plans.
Shortly after making this thread, IPS told me that they're dropping all BBCode support with IPB 4. This means that, while you can make a post with BBCode in it and it'll parse (however it'll parse in the weird way that IPB handles BBCode), it will not be there when you go back to edit.
In other words, IPS 4 is effectively WYSIWYG only, which will break huge parts of our board and current posts. No one here, especially you power users (I'm looking at you, Lyvalaea! ), wants that. I certainly don't.
So, in light of that, I spent about 20 man hours scouring our options for migration. I checked out other platforms, software, CMS2CMS services, you name it. There are some solid options out there, with solid support, but nothing truly phenomenal jumped out at me.
Then I found Forums.net, the high-level form of Proboards that allows us to make our own rules, retain ownership of our data, and provides migration services from IP.Board.
Knowing first-hand how well Proboards works, and how customizable it is, I couldn't turn down what they were offering us. Being able to get back to a board that handles BBCode standards like normal, with the support and services they offer, wasn't something I could pass up.
So I hired them. I've got a migration team working on building a customer converter for our board. I'll keep you guys updated every step of the way.
There's a few things to know.
First, when we go to migrate I will do another SQL dump and send that to them for conversion. Right before I do that I'm going to make a big, bold announcement saying "All posts from this point on will be lost." This will be the point where you start saving any posts you make.
But not yet! We're not moving yet.
I will check back in with you guys on Thursday night with news on the status of the converter. If I get news early then so will you.
Another thing to consider is that this is ProBoards v5 software. If any of you are familiar with ProBoards v5, please feel free to chime in, help, etc. We'll be looking at skinning options and such right away. We'll also be looking to rebuild some of our current functionalities. Our current Posts feed, for instance, is a top priority. We also have plenty of options for Chat integration. All of this is possible with ProBoards software (it's still PHP and SQL, after all), it's just a matter of pinning it all down.
On that front, anyone who wants to chip in would have their efforts greatly appreciated. We have a lot more options for skinning now, as well as features and what have you. If you can contribute to that it'll make a big difference.
With the stronger foundation of Forums.net software and services (the #1 forum host in the world, actually!) and the solid editor they have, along with other core features, I'm actually very confident that this will lead to a monumentally improved experience for everyone on Bleach Gotei. There's also a huge community out there to support the software we'll be using, one that I know many of you are familiar with.
At the same time, it's not like my IPS license or this version of our database is going anywhere. I, and everyone else pitching in, will be working as hard as we can to make sure this change is a net positive.

vanilla, you shit
edit I needn't point out that this point isn't really serious
on the one hand, vanilla is very, very good for simply writing on, on the other I seem to recall it being somewhat lacking when it comes to things like the type of gamification we've got as far as semi-static titles, stats, etc goes
also people will cry about m-muh colors
edit2 honestly this news pleases me because fuck IPS and their modern (read: trendwhore-y) SOCIAL MEDIAAAAAAA approach

;~; but my coding is like, simple
i don't even use bootstrap like amelia does
-narrows eyes at amelia's app, then his metagame thread, then back to app-
And to be fair, my original app really only used tables, justified text, and floating images as an addition to the options we have. I think that's pretty basic. Some forums even handle those functions with a normal forum coding set (the last time I tried making a table on BG, it wasn't available for having a fixed width/height anyway).
