Second Manifestation
The second manifestation of Lucas' Schrift is more like a completion of the first. His ability to open portals to the Garganta is expanded greatly and he's now able to open portals in any dimension, including from within the Garganta itself. This finally allows him the ability to travel between worlds.

Journey
In the past, I would write this really convoluted and overwhelming summary of every thread within my character's journey to an Advancement Request. We've decided to eschew this approach as a community -- and I'm happy about that. I'll do my best to keep this as succinct as possible.
The core of this Advancement has to do with Lucas' relationship with his father, the promise they made, and how he feels about the man his father has become. The first thread in this Request, Never Get Old, sets the stage for all of that. He idolizes his father and, in a way, sees achieving their dream of Quincy unification as a means to save his father from his pessimism and apathy.
Every thread between that one and Pardon My Mess is about that. Lucas works diligently to bring Quincy together and firmly believes everything he's selling. He's, as a good friend once put it, proselytizing. No matter who he runs into, he keeps going with it. This, I feel, shows just how serious he is about what he says he wants to do.
Pardon My Mess itself is the first major test of Lucas' promise to his father: To not kill any Shinigami in order to avoid their full wrath. He keeps this promise.
The Arc that follows is much more difficult for Lucas. He runs into Quincy not so easily convinced, such as Anna in The QUincy in Green. He also deals with the consequences of his actions -- not fighting Amou, but uniting the Quincy, in his thread Just One Night where Saya attempts to assassinate his ass.
Once again, he overcomes her without killing her. But I'd like to focus on that thread: He very nearly tried to. If it weren't for her last-minute realization of how to stop Lucas' explosions, he may very well have succeeded. A simple assault on his much-needed quiet dinner was already enough to fray him at the edges.
He deals with this yet again for entirely unrelated reasons, though Lucas doesn't quite believe that, when he meets Shigure in Argumentum ad Ignorantium. This one really gets more into his opinions on Shinigami in detail, including how he feels about the Rukongai and his strong opinions on The Balance (which is his Schrift, for those of you who enjoy your almonds activated). This, too, results in him holding back and defeating the Shinigami without taking their life.
Yet he persists, meeting others like Rick in Business as Usual, right up unti getting called back to Germany in See You Later, Dad. It's this thread right here that I think really sheds more light on just how good his relationship with his father was, and the kind of man he was. It also shows just what began to change Edward: The death of his father, George Lightner, at the hands of a Hollow.
All of this experience culminates in the events of The Assassination, where he, Aidan, and Rick all try to stop Genki. This is the first time where Lucas has run into an opponent that he simply cannot defeat. Worse yet? All three of them together can't overcome the man!
That alone isn't enough, though. What really sets Lucas over the edge, and sets him up for his Second Power climax moment, is Genki's Shikai. It compels you to reveal a secret, you see, and what kind of dirty secret does Lucas have?
Look, it's in bold.
He doesn't even see Edward as his father anymore. In the thread, he says it during a metaphorical scene confronting the paralyzing fear that has gripped his father, but the words are meant for the real man who lives in the real world. In a way, Lucas feels like his father died that day along with his Grandfather -- but he's never said it, even to himself. Until right then.
That opens the flood gates, and leads to Lucas making a new choice. And I'd like to emphasize, and I hope you'll feel it when you read the story, that it's a very deliberate one. It's not made just in the heat of the moment -- that only helped it happen.
He chooses to break his father's promise and decides to kill Shinigami whenever he can.
Starting with Genki.
This, I feel, is the perfect journey for Lucas to Second Power.
