Last LC Request: Thou Shalt Not Kill
What's the Setup?
Three times in total, Lucas' promise to his father has been tested. The previous Legendary Challenge was one where that promise was kept despite his first run-in with a Shinigami that Lucas fully believed to be a death match. He kept that promise.
Twice more, he fought and won without taking the life of the Shinigami.
Now he's finally run into an opponent that he can't beat. An opponent that he can't beat even with two of the most powerful Quincy he's ever met fighting right along with him.
If that isn't the best test of his promise, I don't know what is.

You might normally expect that Lucas, despite his best efforts, breaks his promise with this fight. He's pushed too far, has no choice, and crosses the line by attempting to outright kill Genki.
Not quite.
He does break his promise, but it's a conscious decision made possible -- ironically -- by Genki's Shikai. By forcing him to confront a well-kept and ugly secret, his disdain for who his father has become, Lucas throws away his loyalty to that version of the man.
I feel this thread is Legendary because in it, Lucas makes a very concious, clear-minded decision to break that promise. There's more to that, more impact, in my opinion, because of that. He can't blame anything or anyone but himself for what he himself admits he wanted deep down.
And it creates a moment encapsulated, I think, by one of my best posts ever.
I'd like to note that, as of this writing, the thread is ongoing. Although Lucas' participation ends with this post, one way or another, anyone who would like to use this Request for themselves will need to fill out the rest!
