She watched as the mask broke off of her face, the bloodstained pieces crumbling into dust in the wind. It was a shame that it was so much more peaceful here than it was in the Seireitei. Though she supposed she should have expected it to be this way. With new titles came new responsibilities, after all. Earth was the only place she could free herself. The only place where she could wear her mask without fear of persecution. Most shinigami, she thought, would be disgusted by what she was. The few who weren't were going to be few and far between, and nowhere near the level of strength to stand in her defense.
A helicopter could be heard coming in for a landing on the rooftop she currently occupied. Likely some sort of emergency medical transport. The hospital was busy today it would seem. She'd found herself mostly unbothered in her practices atop the building's roof, save for the occasional helicopter landing. When those times came the Songbird took it as her time to leave and actually accomplish the patrol she'd come to the world on the pretense of. The nice thing about being acting captain was she could assign herself orders without reason. In recent months she'd put in more patrols than most of the others in the division had even been assigned, for the simple sake of wanting to better understand the powers she now held.
Stepping off the rooftop's edge she thought about the progress she'd made. It was no longer a struggle to wear the mask or even to call on it. She found she was able to cast using it now which, obviously, was beneficial. Their voice was also louder which gave her a sense of peace. Beldame's voice on the other hand had grown quiet. She thought it served the spirit right though she knew few would agree with her. Then again she never asked for other's approval. Rather, she hadn't in some time and didn't intend to for even longer, if ever again.
There had been a feeling of a fight brewing for some time. A confrontation of two factions. If she had to guess, it was likely one of her own and one of the weaker mortals that called the planet home. One as weak willed as the girl in Russia had been, too afraid to let go of their own mortality to realize the potential they held in their afterlife. Yet, she'd been weak as well. She couldn't finish off the girl despite the fact that it would have been so easy.
No. Not weak. Killing her would have been the easy way out. Taking something that takes no effort gives no reward. Taking something in a moment of anger is to make a mistake. It was something She would do. The Witch would snuff out a life at a moment's notice for crossing her path. Mirabelle knew she had to move past that mentality. She had to offer every last option to the individual to ensure that killing them was the last straw. She was different. She was better.
She'd begun to move from rooftop to rooftop, silently scanning the streets as she went about the patrol. Mortals milled around almost in a haze, carrying on with their mundane lives. She was about to make her return to the Seireitei when she received a distress signal from another shinigami. So she'd been right then. Without responding, she began to make her way in the direction of the call's origin hoping to catch the injured far enough away from the battle sight that they weren't going to be in immediate danger as she tried to stabilize them.
