ABILITIES // Proof of who I am //
Zanpakutō
• Zanpakutō Spirit | Kannaduki (神無月): Godless Moon Kannaduki takes the form of a petite young woman wearing traditional shrine maiden's attire—red hakama and a white kosode. Her long, dark hair flows down her back, accentuating her pale skin and framing her delicate Asian features. Her seemingly supernatural allure is strengthened by her eyes, eyes that glow with the soft color of embers in a fire.
Though short, Kannaduki has more than her fair share of personality; she will switch at the blink of an eye from playful teasing to towering rage, and back again equally quickly. Her emotions are uncontrollable, unpredictable, and varied. Hotheaded, brash, quick to judge and quick to forget, she is the polar opposite of Kyousuke—the fire to his ice. • Inner World | The manifestation of Kannaduki's inner world is ever-changing in a strangely appropriate sense—it is always a desaturized reflection of the world around her. Lush greenery and blue skies give way to innumerable shades of grey, light and dark become sharp whites and deep blacks. Only Kannaduki herself and the enormous moon that hangs lazily in the sky, mirroring the color of Kannaduki's eyes, remains chromatic. Kyousuke finds himself simultaneously ill at ease and oddly relaxed while visiting the inner world of his zanpakutō, as if he can't decide which is more appropriate. • Sealed State | In her sealed state, Kannaduki takes the shape of a wakizashi. A relatively short, unadorned 40 cm blade joins the 25 cm sky-blue hilt, a black plum flower-shaped tsuba separating the two. Kannaduki's appearance in Shikai remains unchanged. Kyousuke keeps Kannaduki in a black, full-length katana scabbard tucked into his belt, creating the illusion that Kannaduki is longer than she truly is. As a result of this, Kyousuke draws deceptively fast and is able to engage at shorter distances and in closer confines than a standard-length katana would allow, using a blend of swordplay and unarmed fighting techniques to defeat his opponents.
Shikai • Overall Ability | The simplest explanation of Kannaduki's ability is to say that it's an ability that enables simple replication, and by extension, force multiplication. While a similar effect can be achieved without release, what it essentially boils down to in such a case is using ridiculous speed to do something in rapid succession.
Kannaduki's shikai takes it one step further—doing something twice or more times, simultaneously. Two examples spring to mind: one, where a stabbing or thrusting motion is replicated, either for greater penetrative effect, or to come from more than one direction at once; two, where a swinging or slicing motion is replicated, to enhance the force of the compounded blow, in order to slice or even hit something with two or more times the force.
These two examples have both been adopted for use by Kyousuke, naming them Utsushidase (Reflect) and Tsukihanase (Thrust away/forsake), respectively. While the former will often generate simultaneous strikes from two or more directions, the latter will usually compound them and unleash a powerful slam using either the edge or flat of the blade.
The secret behind Kannaduki's ability when released is that it manipulates dimensional space in close proximity to the sword, creating openings to parallel dimensions and worlds which can be manipulated in a variety of ways—most commonly by multiplying actions via "pulling out" duplicates. • Release Phrase | Okoridase, Kannaduki (怒り出せ 神無月): Fly into a rage, Kannaduki • Shikai Appearance | Kannaduki's shikai form remains physically unchanged from her sealed state, making it impossible for an observer to discern whether or not Kannaduki has been released. Because of this, Kyousuke does not have to alter his method of combat even if Kannaduki is released, but can still enhance it with Kannaduki's abilities.
APPEARANCE // More than skin deep //
• Height | 180 cm • Weight | 75 kg • Hair Color & Style | Black, a nondescript haircut that keeps it short enough to be out of the way • Eye Color | Greyish blue • Overall Appearance | Kyousuke is of average height and weight—180 cm tall and weighing 75 kg—and though he's far from muscular, he has certain tone where it's expected on a swordsman; his shoulders, chest and upper arms show that while no bodybuilder, he can wield a sword competently. His build is lithe and supple, giving the distinct impression of being intended for speed and mobility rather than brute strength. Kyousuke's face is fairly plain; easy to forget but handsome to some. Although he looks honest at first glance, his grey-blue eyes—easily his most distinguishing feature—betray a detachment and intelligence capable of manipulation and deception. His hair is jet black and cut fairly short, and he shaves regularly.
Kyousuke wears his uniform with a certain dignified grace, keeping it unmodified and in immaculate shape. He realizes that it is a largely functional garment, but sees no reason to let it fall apart from misuse. His posture gives him an air of humble nobility and calm, and while he does his best to blend in with his surroundings and keep a generally low profile, he possesses an indescribable charisma. This charisma mingles with the unavoidable feeling that there is something not quite right, something that sets him apart from most. The way he smiles, talks, carries himself, hide his true nature, and while most are oblivious to what lurks underneath, some feel—on an almost unconscious level—that there is something amiss.
Kyousuke has stopped wearing his fake glasses since he feigned his death and went into exile, and instead wears his mask whenever he is out and about to avoid being recognized. The mask, created at Kyousuke's request by a Fourth Division researcher, is chalk white with a pair of black, unemotional, almost disinterested set of eyes and mouth on it. It's made of synthetic hollow-mask material, and if broken, can be reconstituted by applying reiatsu to any one of the pieces.
When in a gigai, Kyousuke defaults to a crisp, untucked dress shirt and unfaded jeans.
PERSONALITY // Understand the invisible //
• Favorite Color | Kyousuke's favorite color is pale blue, the color of ice and cold weather. To him, it symbolizes a certain detachment, a frostiness, a state of mind that he has to maintain in order to keep on being content with his life.
• Likes | Warm Weather § Kyousuke is exceedingly fond of heat, enjoying sunlight and a fire equally, but to him, there's something special about the summer and warm spring months, when the heat brings about change, sustains life, and generally puts people in a good mood. Rain § Although Kyousuke's love for heat would seem contrary to his affection for rain, he often finds that the warm rains that follow the stifling days of summer bring about a certain balance, contrasting the chirp of cicadas with the thrum of rain on a roof, the gentle smattering of it hitting the ground. The feeling of privacy and intimacy it conjures is a balm for the soul. Mathematical Perfection § Kyousuke likes the concept of an indisputable result, a numerical truth, an objective answer. The many shades of grey in life are inevitable, but some things can be simply black or white, and this knowledge instills a sense of calm in Kyousuke. Cooking § Cooking is one of Kyousuke's passions, and he'll spend hours at a time in the kitchen preparing a delicious meal for himself or friends. Spicy Food § Kyousuke enjoys eating, but a special place in his heart (or stomach) is reserved for meals that make him sweat, make his mouth burn, and set fire to his sensibilities.
• Dislikes | Snow § Snow goes hand in hand with cold weather, and while beautiful for a few fleeting moments, it quickly gives way to ice and slush. Unsure footing, dampness, and dreary, lifeless landscapes are all things snow brings with it, and for those reasons, Kyousuke despises it. Bland Food § Food should have flavor, whether it be spicy, sweet, salty or otherwise, and altogether too many foods taste like absolutely nothing. Kyousuke enjoys eating as much as anyone, but nothing puts a damper on his enjoyment as food with no flavor. Shabbiness § Kyousuke likes everything that's neat and tidy, and at the opposite end of the scale, there exists shabbiness and disorder. Frayed edges, stains, discolorations, holes and worn spots all bother Kyousuke, who sees these as evidence of misuse, carelessness, and a disdain for proper care. Poor Manners § Everything from chewing with your mouth open to letting doors slam shut in people's faces bothers Kyousuke. "It only takes a moment to be polite," he says, and according to him, courtesy is not a choice.
• Flaws | Insincerity § Though Kyousuke himself doesn't consider it a flaw, his insincerity and multifaceted personality—once discovered—is regarded as a crippling flaw of character. Though he himself sees playing the part of an urbane, functioning member of society as a necessity in order to succeed with his agenda, others resent the fact that he is only acting friendly in order to hide his detachment and apathy. Patience § Kyousuke is extremely impatient with others. He will often remind himself that patience is a virtue that he adheres to. While this is true when it comes to objects or things out of his control, as soon as it involves someone in close proximity to him, his patience very quickly withers away. He will not let anyone else do something if he knows he can do it better or faster, and he is utterly incapable of teaching anyone anything. He takes too much knowledge or skill for granted, and while he's no wunderkind genius, he possesses a sharp intellect and is almost brutally practical.
• Habits | Sword Care § Despite the fact that his zanpakutō—like all others—never dulls, Kyousuke will spend hours tending to it, rubbing it down with oils, cleaning it, sharpening the edge with a grindstone, checking the fixtures, and polishing it. Kannaduki herself sees this as some sort of massage and is always particularly kittenish afterwards. Cooking § Kyousuke enjoys cooking, and has made it a habit to cook for himself, experimenting with new combinations, seasonings, and types of food.
• Fears | For no apparent reason, Kyousuke fears large, open expanses of deep water. Naturally, this extends to travel by boat across said water, and though the fear isn't paralytic per se, he is extremely uncomfortable in situations that bring him close to open water. He can swim, but prefers not to, and will actively avoid any sort of water if at all possible. Ponds, moats, smaller lakes and rivers don't bother him as much as the ocean does. • Goals | Kyousuke used to have no overarching agenda, he lived on a day-to-day, assignment-to-assignment basis. Whenever deployed, he did his best to complete his objective as efficiently as possible. When he was promoted to Lieutenant of the Fourth Division, however, his feelings of apathy and detachment toward Seireitei grew as he became more familiar with the upper echelons of power. As a self-made exile, he works together with his companions with one goal in mind: the destruction of Seireitei and the forces within. • Overall Personality | Though he acts amiable on the surface, Kyousuke displays certain sociopathic tendencies (one could argue that his amiability is one such tendency) and a detachment from the emotional issues that plague others. He observes, analyzes, processes and calculates, but intervenes very seldomly. When under duress, he will remain calm, seldom letting overzealous emotions intervene as he methodically attempts to overcome whatever situation he finds himself in.
His superficial charm, relaxed attitude and urbane mannerisms are jarring opposites to his true self; brutal efficiency, deception, and manipulation define his character. While on friendly terms with almost everyone he meets, people will often get the impression that Kyousuke is not all that he seems, for better or for worse.
The concept of morality, while not entirely unfamiliar, is rarely applied when Kyousuke decides his actions—he will let the tangible much moreso than the intangible influence his decisions. As an example, a life without purpose or potential is worth much less to Kyousuke than a life that has not yet outlived its usefulness.
Due to extensive field work outside Soul Society, Kyousuke has become very accustomed to modern human life around the world, and as such displays a varied multicultural knowledge. North American, European, and East Asian cultures have all left their mark.
HISTORY // Tell me a tale //
• Birthplace | Osaka, Japan • Mother | Aya Tsukimiya • Father | Kensuke Tsukimiya • Siblings | Only child • Other Relations | None • Companion | Nobody noteworthy • Overall History | Born in Osaka in 1917, Kyousuke grew up as an only child in the modest Tsukimiya household, inheriting very little besides his father's quick reflexes and physical fitness and his mother's considerable intellect. Kensuke, his father, a soldier and veteran of the Russo-Japanese war, urged Kyousuke to join the military, whereas Aya, his mother, wanted him to take advantage of his intelligence and study at higher institutions of learning. Though initially at odds with one another, Kyousuke's parents finally agreed to send him to university, which he attended until the outbreak of the second Sino-Japanese war in 1937. Fueled by nationalistic pride and influenced by the redoubled efforts by both his father and mother to persuade Kyousuke into joining the military, Kyousuke enlisted in the Navy, attending Officer's School and graduating as a junior naval officer.
During the following years, Kyousuke saw his fair share of combat and soon caught the attention of his superior officers, who noted that Kyousuke displayed the potential for higher command. Unwilling to let such a promising asset go to waste, he was stationed on the aircraft carrier Soryu in the beginning of 1942, where he participated in a number of successful operations. During the Soryu's final battle at Midway in 1942, Kyousuke suffered major injuries, and was thrown overboard as explosions rocked the carrier from within. In the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean, Kyousuke Tsukimiya drowned.
---
As Kyousuke's soul transcended the physical world and began to manifest itself in Soul Society, his memories from life sloughed off him like the skin of a snake. He awoke in the eighth district of Rukongai, where he stayed for several years passing the days by performing odd jobs, playing the part of a drifter in a loose sense of the word. He was by no means unhappy, but he was bored. Nothing kept his attention for long, he would learn how to do something new and then grow tired of doing it. He did everything from plowing fields and building houses to calligraphy and acting as a bodyguard, but nothing could keep him interested once the initial thrill of learning it faded. The shinigami, uncommon as they were, at first seemed mysterious, and the first time he laid eyes on Seireitei he was awestruck by the grandeur of it. Kyousuke started asking around after that: what were the shinigami, why did they exist, who became shinigami, how did they become shinigami. His questions were met with a mix of derision and adoration, it became pretty clear that the opinion of the black-clad mysteries varied hugely. The decision for Kyousuke was not difficult; it seemed an inevitability that he would don the black kimono and hakama. The alternative, to remain in Rukongai, was not something he felt particularly interested in doing. He sought out the Academy, and just as he did when he was alive, he enlisted.
The Academy welcomed him with open arms, and just as in life, he showed promise. Though the strength of his soul was far from remarkable, he did indeed possess a higher than average spiritual pressure making him an excellent candidate for becoming a Shinigami. His training proceeded without a hitch, and his studious nature helped him quickly advance through the programme. His skill with a sword was lackluster at first, but during his second year, when his true zanpakutō manifested itself, he quickly developed a rough foundation of what would become a custom fighting style to suit the considerably shorter blade. A brutal mix of hand-to-hand combat, deception and swordplay, Kyousuke finally began to win his sparring matches, often resulting in heavy bruising on both sides and plenty of cuts to go around. Kyousuke's mobility was exceptional, and he would use this to his advantage to close the distance, putting himself as close to his opponent as possible, where he would unleash a barrage of slashes, stabs, punches and kicks.
Although Kyousuke was apt at combat, his Kido skills were found to be severely lacking. Only the simplest of spells were available to him, and he became prone to forgetting the incantations of the Kido numbered past the early twenties. This seemed to be contrary to his otherwise bookish attitude. Perhaps the problem was that he had not quite adjusted to the idea of "magic", and his practical mind preferred the intrinsic values of hard science to fantasy mumbo-jumbo. Whatever the case, his interest in Kido plummeted as his interest in the goings-on within the Shinigami Research and Development Institute skyrocketed. This, however, did not sit well with the Academy staff. Urged on by his instructors to redouble his efforts in Kido, he applied himself once more pushed the R&D Institute to the back of his mind. To his own surprise he found that, with work, he was proficient at the binding arts, vastly preferring them to their destructive counterparts.
It wasn't until after his graduation and subsequent placement in the Second Division that Kyousuke perfected his rather unique fighting style with the aid of several of his seniors over the course of several decades. He retained the three core ideas of mobility, brutal efficiency and trickery, but shifted the focus from being heavily offensive to maintaining a much more balanced harmony between offense and defense. He had realized that a using a such a short blade combined with an array of hand-to-hand techniques wasn't quite suited for overly offensive engagements, and in truth left him at something of a disadvantage unless he was able to stay close enough to his opponent. Because of this, he decided to forfeit some of his offense in favor of more defense, balancing the style. The primary strength of the style shifted from exerting a large amount of immediate force to the fact that it was unfamiliar, unpredictable, and adaptive. Naturally, it was weak at everything from middle to long range, but coupled with clever use of binding arts and flash stepping, Kyousuke found that he could cover his weaknesses sufficiently.
Kyousuke learned much from his time in the Second Division—including the name of his zanpakutō—but his rekindled interest in the goings-on within the Fourth Division eventually won out against the espionage, contra-espionage and assassinations of the Second. Even Kyousuke's own combat style made him question the prospect of continuing a career in the Second Division, leaving him with the feeling that it didn't quite suit the duties he performed anymore. The Second Division's mantra of finishing it quickly and quietly wasn't something Kyousuke felt he could adhere to anymore with his new style, even factoring in Kannaduki's released abilities. While still an able fighter, the stealth and speed that he required wasn't quite suited for assassinations of high-level targets. Unwilling to transfer to the Fifth Division, Kyousuke applied for a transfer to the Fourth.
The skills he had acquired as a member of the Second Division served Kyousuke well in the Fourth Division, and he found that his style no longer posed an inconvenience. Often deployed as a field agent for observational or intelligence gathering purposes, Kyousuke took to the Fourth Division like a fish to water. Behind the walls of the Research and Development compound, he could drop his facade and his behavior wouldn't garner a second glance—it seemed as though every single member of his new Division shared a certain sociopathic element. His detachment was nothing special, certainly nothing out of the ordinary amongst his new comrades. He couldn't have been more happy with the arrangement: he was offered the opportunity to keep his swordsmanship keen while performing field work, he often met with members of various other divisions, accompanying them on missions where he would deploy or observe the deployment of experimental technologies, and he was given a safe haven where he could be himself.
---
It was during his time serving with the Second Division that Kyousuke learned the name of his zanpakutō. He had been tracking a target for a little more than a week on his first solo assignment, the entire time he had been dreaming whispers of muted warnings during the nights, his dreamscape a mess of reddish-orange glowing orbs slipping in and out of focus as he stood over his own sleeping body, his grey eyes locked with the ember-colored eyes of the smiling girl standing across from him. She would try to speak and he would tell her time and time again that she had to be quiet, he had to remain undetected. As the distance between Kyousuke and his quarry became smaller and smaller, the girl would try to speak more and more often, sometimes flashes of anger would pass over her face as he interrupted her, but they would soon pass.
It wasn't until Kyousuke walked into the ambush that he realized the significance of the dreams he had been having. He was outnumbered, three to one, and when he finally collapsed to one knee, the three figures advancing menacingly on him, he was shocked to see them slow and finally halt completely as the world around him was drained of color and an enormous moon the color of smoldering coal rose lazily into the sky from beyond the horizon. A voice called out from behind him, and he turned to meet the girl from his dreams.
He knew at once what she had been trying to say this entire time. She had known he would be ambushed. She had known about the mistakes he had made. There was no doubt about her identity, and Kyousuke muttered her name under his breath. There would be time to get to know her later.
---
The years following Kyousuke's transfer to the Fourth Division saw a lot of change. He rose through the ranks, serving as a seated officer and finally as the lieutenant of the Division. He met and befriended Urufu Azathoth, a young human boy who became a close companion of Kyousuke's, and they met frequently during Kyousuke's many assignments on Earth. Increased dissatisfaction with the way Soul Society was being run by the powers in Seireitei and the subtle awakening of an internal struggle in Kyousuke's mind led Kyousuke to question his superiors and their methods, and self-destructive tendencies fueled by his detachment and apathy led to him finally leaving Soul Society altogether, leaving behind him his former division, his former comrades, and his allegiances.
Faking his death with the help of Urufu and destroying an entire city block in the process, Kyousuke joined the boy in Hueco Mundo, where they began making plans for the fall of Seireitei at the hands of the Hollows and Arrancar. It was during this time that something stirred deep within Kyousuke's psyche, a personification of his deepest, most repressed feelings that neither he nor Kannaduki wanted anything to do with even on a subconscious level. For the first time in centuries, Kyousuke was dreaming again. For the first time in centuries, Kyousuke was having nightmares.
RP SAMPLE //
The sun was rising over the tops of the skyscrapers as the gateway to Soul Society opened and a squad of shinigami spilled out into the golden light that was spreading. Trailing slightly behind, Tsukimiya Kyousuke stepped out into the air of the human world, light glinting off the rim of his glasses.
As the shinigami in charge started barking orders to his squad, Kyousuke lazily glanced around, taking in the sights as if he had seen them altogether too many times in his life. Here were the humans thronging on the streets below, here were the cars honking noisily, here were the rays of sunlight shining on the sides of the tall glass buildings like so many mirrors. He paused, as if reflecting something, and then coughed slightly as if to make his presence known. The ranking shinigami glanced at Kyousuke; but made no attempt to hustle him—Kyousuke was not there under his command. "Tell me again why you're with us, Tsukimiya," he asked gruffly, as Kyousuke gave him a crooked half-smile.
"What I'm here for is not your concern," he replied, smile unfaltering. "All you need to know is that while I am in the company of your squad, I will be present in a strictly observational capacity and I do not plan on drawing my sword unless I am absolutely forced to. Is that clear?"
"Yes, that much I've been told already. Will you be with us the entire time?"
"No, I've got somewhere to be. You have your orders, and I have mine. Finish whatever it is you came here to do, and feel free to depart without me." Kyousuke glanced at the others, nodded in acknowledgement, and turned back to the ranking shinigami with a sigh. "I'm out of time, so I'll be departing now. Best of luck to you and your men."
As he turned, he heard a muttered "and to you" before he flash stepped away, putting considerable distance between himself and the other shinigami. He was amused at the fact that the shinigami had even replied, most of the time the ones in charge didn't even bother; the members of the fourth division were not exactly popular with the other divisions. Oh well, he thought to himself, It's not like I need his good-luck wishes, not for something like this.
The task Kyousuke had been given was a simple one: there was a small group of low-level arrancar somewhere in the city—failed experiments that had defected—and the fourth division had been asked to find out as much as possible about them before sending the second division. Kyousuke was there for reconnaissance, but he had been authorized to use force if it came to it. He wasn't planning on having to take it that far, however. He wasn't planning on even meeting any of them.
He alighted in front of a decrepit four-story building in a run-down part of the city and stood for a moment looking into the dark recesses of the mostly shattered windows before entering through the doorway that seemed to be missing its doors. The space inside was vacuous except for some supporting pillars, and in one of the far corners Kyousuke spotted some bedding. Guess they need sleep like the rest of us, he thought. He approached slowly, alert, but short of actually being seen, Kyousuke knew he was invisible. Suppressing his spirit pressure to almost nonexistence was a trick he had learned back in the second division.
It didn't occur to him until after the arrancar lunged at him, blade drawn from the shadows that they would be capable of the same thing. Kyousuke quickly turned to meet his assailant head-on and caught his sword arm at the wrist, delivering a punch to the neck with a force that almost broke his hand against the stone-like skin of the arrancar. As the arrancar's momentum carried them both to the floor, Kyousuke managed to break the arrancar's grip on the sword and it went flying into the shadows near the wall. Winded from the fall, Kyousuke rolled away as the arrancar lashed out, its broken mask resembling a skeletal sneer on its harsh European features. Getting up with a grunt, Kyousuke caught an oncoming kick and staggered back under the force of it, but managed to retaliate with a swift elbow to the face that sent the arrancar sprawling. He scrambled after, trying to draw Kannaduki, but the arrancar interrupted with a wide swing at Kyousuke's face, shattering one lens of his glasses and knocking them to the floor. Kyousuke closed the distance and drove his knee into the stomach of the arrancar, and it doubled over, gasping, giving Kyousuke the opportunity he needed.
He drew Kannaduki, and slashed downwards at the arrancar's head, cleaving into it with a crunch. At once, the life went out of the arrancar, and it crumpled to the floor as Kannaduki's blade came free. It wasn't nearly as clean as Kyousuke would have liked, but it was done and now he had to get out of there. He felt something warm on his face, raised his hand to it and his fingers came back bloody from the split cheek. His hand and elbow ached, and he was limping slightly as he approached the corner once more, sword still in hand. Five bedrolls. With one already dead, that meant four more for the second division to mop up. He turned towards the front of the building and limped out, flash stepping to a safe distance before finally wiping off Kannaduki and sheathing her.
As he opened a gateway to Soul Society, his mind wandered briefly to the shinigami he had arrived with. Dismissing the thought, he stepped through the portal and didn't look forward to the next time he had to fight another arrancar bare-handed.

This Application was created by Strawberry Jam of Caution 2.0. It was edited by Speck of Bleach Gotei. Slowly and Painfully. Edited by Twinks of Bleach Gotei with much keyboard slamming and cursing love and dedication. Inspiration comes from the many that are out there. Re-edited to coherency by Tsukimiya because the coding was an inconsistent clusterfuck and needed to die in a fire.

I remember the differences between UDG and Twinkie that caused a site divide.
I remember when Twinkie tried to introduce Canon characters and I played Renji for about a month before Canon characters were scrapped again.
I remember Twinkies character being in a relationship with an NPC that looked like Canon Gin, acted like Canon Gin and was actually named Gin, but somehow wasn't canon Gin.

I remember Mackaveli and Tmack making a huge fail of a DBZ site.
I remember myself, Jomei and another person (who's name escapes me) made a pretty kick-ass Pokemon RP actually. It actually got pretty popular, then died out of nowhere cuz Jomei buggered off. Thanks Jomei! D=<
I remember the site on the brink of death and -as Kyousuke might put it- a pants on head retarded pre pubescent teen made himself head admin.
Everything after that I try not to think about.
